1 Important Practice To Remember When Certain People Waste Your Energy & Time

I don't know where to start with this blog. I haven't created a blog on my site for a few years now. I've been busy with other priorities in my life, trying to get my relationship and wellness life coaching business flourishing while also staying healthy in every aspect. With that being said, I want to share an important practice that I've learned from my own experiences in certain lifestyles and educational courses.


Embracing Our Authentic Selves


As a foundational Black American man, I feel comfortable with who I am. I strive to appreciate and respect those who do the same for themselves. It's vital to show that same appreciation and respect back when establishing connections. However, in many cases, especially in America, certain people and situations can test us. This is particularly true for Black Americans who simply want to be genuine human beings and see our planet and society flourish beautifully.


Sadly, some groups from other cultures may try to copy us or make fun of our bodies, emotions, mentalities, and even our values. I’m not saying we’re perfect; heck, I’m not even perfect. I make mistakes, and I sometimes find myself in moods that throw my energy out of whack. Certain people can test my patience, both in person and online. But the important thing for us—whether we’re men, women, straight, gay, bisexual, pansexual, or otherwise—is to recognize what’s happening in our inner world and our outer world when certain people treat us oddly.


A Lesson in Collaboration


Recently, I was invited to collaborate on a podcast to discuss intimacy and wellness in a certain alternative lifestyle. However, I noticed some alarming behaviors. The host showed up late for a scheduled Zoom call and kept changing the time of the podcast I was supposed to be on. In my heart, I tried to be forgiving. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and remained patient, doing my best to respect her boundaries as a person and get to know her genuinely.


But then, she canceled our live session and told me that I needed to be more familiar with her work. I was dumbfounded and surprised. I had reached out to her respectfully after listening to an inspiring episode of her podcast, expressing my admiration for her wit and wanting to collaborate on that specific topic.


When I realized that she treated me this way as a content creator and a foundational Black American man involved in alternative lifestyles like kink and somatic healing, I felt my time was wasted. For anyone reading this, I am genuinely respectful towards people who are different from me, regardless of gender. What I cannot tolerate is having my intelligence insulted and my time wasted. I want to help people learn how to heal themselves and provide them with the tools to do that for themselves and their loved ones all over the globe.


The Importance of Boundaries


So, with that being said, I want to share an important practice for recognizing when certain people waste your energy and time as a content creator and an individual. Here’s the lesson that I want to impart:

It's crucial to recognize what we will and will not tolerate regularly. Our energy and time are precious for our well-being. Once you identify that a person is wasting your precious energy and time, it reveals how much they don’t respect you as an individual.


Creating healthy boundaries with yourself is essential. This practice helps you avoid being too hard on yourself and allows you to learn from what just happened. When you want to connect with others in the future, consider whether it’s worth it. This reflection will help you respond accordingly and do what’s best for your well-being.


Cultivating Self-Care


The Role of Self-Care in Our Lives


Self-care is more than just a buzzword; it’s a vital practice that helps us recharge and reconnect with ourselves. Engaging in self-care activities allows us to nurture our mental, emotional, and physical health. Whether it’s taking a long walk, meditating, or indulging in a favorite hobby, self-care is essential for maintaining balance in our lives.


Finding Your Unique Self-Care Practices


Everyone's self-care routine is unique. What works for one person may not work for another. It's important to explore different practices and find what resonates with you. Perhaps you enjoy journaling, painting, or simply spending time in nature. Whatever it is, make sure it brings you joy and peace.


Building a Supportive Community


Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals can enhance your self-care journey. Engaging with a community that shares your interests and values can provide encouragement and inspiration. Whether it’s through online forums or local meet-ups, connecting with others can help you feel less isolated in your experiences.
